the name.duse productions is named in honor of eleonora duse, a visionary actress who transformed the stage through emotional truth, restraint, and radical realism. rejecting theatrical excess, duse pursued a quieter, more human kind of performance — one rooted in presence, vulnerability, and honesty. her legacy continues to guide the work we make.
the vision.duse productions is a new york–based theatre company devoted to bold storytelling, stripped-down aesthetics, and the enduring power of live performance. we are drawn to plays that ask difficult questions - about truth, responsibility, courage, and the cost of speaking clearly in a noisy world. our work favors intimacy over spectacle, clarity over gimmicks, and deep listening over persuasion.
the mission. we believe in theatre that listens. theatre that risks. theatre that remembers the classics. we believe many of the greatest plays of our time were written hundreds of years ago, and that their questions remain urgent, human, and alive. duse productions exists to bring these classic works to life with clarity, care, and respect for their original voice. we create space for artists to work truthfully and for audiences to encounter these stories without distance or distraction. great theatre does not need to be reinvented — only understood.
the founder.sanio kurtesevic is an actor and producer based in new york city. duse productions was founded from a desire to create theatre that feels human — work that values process as much as product, and presence as much as polish. as an actor, sanio is drawn to classical texts that remain urgently contemporary, and to rehearsal rooms built on trust, rigor, and care. duse productions was born out of that same impulse: to build a company where artists are supported, audiences are respected, and the work is allowed to unfold with honesty.
our work. duse productions develops intimate, ensemble-driven productions that invite audiences into close proximity with the performers and the questions onstage. our inaugural production, an enemy of the people by henrik ibsen, marks the beginning of a longer journey - one committed to clarity, courage, and connection.
